Foster-Glocester Regional School District is currently accepting applications for a highly effective Instructional Teacher Assistant to work in conjunction with students, staff, parents, and administrators to support our students' academic, career, and personal-social development in our high-performing schools. Our school district's learning community of educators, students, and parents is one of the best kept secrets in RI. Located in scenic Northwest Rhode Island our regional school district serves approximately 1,390 students in grades 6-12 for the communities of Foster and Glocester Rhode Island. The district engages in multi-year budgeting and forecasting.

Through sound fiscal management our school district has been able to reallocate resources to meet student needs. We resourced and began implementing in the 2014-2015 school year a multi-year plan to purchase mobile technology (laptops/Chromebooks) for our students and staff to cultivate a blended learning environment. Our middle school is using Chromebooks and our high school is using Windows 10 laptops to meet students' educational needs. We are also actively working to concurrently prepare our students for college and careers.

Over the past five years we invested more than $500,000 in equipment to support these programs.In 2010 Ponaganset High School was awarded full accreditation by NEASC for all standards. Ponaganset High School is comprised of approximately 970 students. Our recently renovated high school includes a new library, a new field house, new science labs -including an alternative energy lab, and renovated art, music, and general classroom facilities. The school sits on more than 140 acres of a living campus that supports learning in and out of school.

Our comprehensive high school has strong art, music, elective, and sport programs. PHS is a member of the League of Innovative Schools. Our middle school serves approximately 420 students. It was built in 2008 and sits on more than 40 acres.

It has built in common planning time for teachers, student personalization groups, and supports for students who are struggling and students who excel. For information about our schools and community visit our website at www.fg.k12.ri.us.Hopefully, youll be the next addition to our school staff!Position: Special Education Instructional Teacher Assistant Report to: Building Principal and Classroom TeacherFunction: To work as part of an instructional team along with teachers and related services personnel and assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of program activities to ensure high levels of learning and performance for identified students consistent with the mission of the district and goals of the school. SALARY: As Per Non-Certified ContractRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: - Use a variety of appropriate instructional strategies, techniques and language developed, directed, and supervised by teachers and other professional staff to support individual students needs as deemed appropriate by the instructional team.- Gather, maintain and monitor data about progress, achievement, and behavior of individual students.- Identify behaviors and cognitive processing that interfere with learning and implement strategies to prevent and/or support positive social and academic behaviors.- Assist the teacher in creating a climate of acceptance in facilitating social/emotional needs of a diverse learning population (promoting friendships, reducing bullying, etc.).- Assist the teacher in providing instruction in academic, vocational, and interpersonal skills in school and community settings.- Supports student community-based instruction by providing educational services and driving students to community-based settings in an approved school-owned vehicle- Assist the teacher in planning, modification, and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment within the classroom and the expanded school environment with diverse academic needs related to meeting grade level standards.- Assist the teacher in providing instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.- Use basic and student specific educational technology and assist students with the use of technology.- Reinforce and foster identified opportunities to generalize skills within the classroom and expanded school environment.- Produce classroom/school materials (classwork, lunch menu, etc.) in collaboration with the special education teacher and the classroom teacher(s).

  • Participate as a collaborative team member including the attendance at meetings beyond the school day if needed.- Provide, if needed, instructional and/or physical assistance in personal care routines (including toileting, hygiene and dressing).- Maintain confidentiality of students and supports the teacher as the primary, but not only, contact for communication with families and others directly involved in that students education.- Exhibit attributes of reliable attendance, promptness, dependability, and professional ethics.- Use a cooperative approach by working as an effective team member (sharing strategies, techniques and materials)- Use effective communication skills with students, colleagues, families and related agencies (spoken, written and non-verbal): - Participate in ongoing professional development specific to student/classroom needs.- Perform the functions of the position in accordance with the RI Professional Code of Conduct- Perform the functions of the position in accordance with all laws, regulations, school district policies, mission of the district, school-based plans, and administrative priorities- Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the classroom teacher, school and district administrators.The intent of these posted duties is to provide a representative sample of the types of duties that the district is seeking for this position and shall not be construed as a declaration of the total duties of this pos
