Job Summary:

The Incident Meteorologist (IMET) performs a variety of duties, including collecting, analyzing, predicting and disseminating specific data and information on weather. They report to the Situation Unit Leader (SITL) and work in the functional area of the Planning section. This position does not require relocation, but will need to be available for deployment nationwide.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Job Classification: Part time, call when needed

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Follows the direction of the SITL
• Keeps the SITL informed of any potential problems or items of note
• Evaluates the impact of current and predicted weather on fuel dryness and condition.
• Analyzes and evaluates weather and climate patterns
• Identifies and forecasts weather events
• Conducts a variety of interagency briefings the content of which facilitate determination of incident priorities, resource allocation and movements, preparedness level changes, and potential problem situations.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
• Knowledge of principles and practices of receiving and distribution required
• Ability to team build and lead personnel required
• Ability to compose and present comprehensive reports required

Education and Experience:

• Successful completion if ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 and 300 is preferred
• Thorough, extensive, specialized knowledge and experience of the theories and application of meteorology, including the dynamics of the atmosphere, meso-scale meteorology, and the application of computer methods of numerical weather analysis and prediction, and forecast situations or environment is required
• Thorough knowledge of meteorological concepts, principles and practices pertaining to weather in order to provide expert, specialized products and advice is required
• Comprehensive knowledge of operational policies, direction, and instructions used to support the production of real-time products on incidents
• Incident response experience is preferred
• Prior experience serving as a IMET is preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged exposure to sitting or standing for long periods of time
• Able to work up 12 to 16 hours per day
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
• Must meet the physical requirements of the position up to and including 14 day deployments

Salary: $52.12 per hour

Pre-employment Requirements:

This position may be contingent upon passing a security clearance, background check, drug screen, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, or credit check after acceptance of an offer and prior to beginning work, due to the nature of the services Chloeta provides.

Emergency Response:

Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
