Position Purpose

The Hyperbaric Technologist assumes responsibility and accountability for patients within a designated time frame within the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center.

Key Responsibilities

Provides comprehensive care to patients utilizing the patient care process of the department and patient care philosophy and functions within the scope of practice of a Hyperbaric Technician. Provides direct patient care by (as indicated by professional practice guidelines): • Conducts and documents initial patient assessment on all patients and identifies plan of care and teaching appropriate to the needs/age of the patient; • Coordinates activities related to Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy including plans, initiates, and manages an established comprehensive treatment care plan, including admissions, scheduling, and discharge planning in collaboration with the patient, their family, and other members of the health care team; • Consults with other departments and care centers, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs; • Implements the treatment plan of care by providing therapeutic Hyperbaric Oxygen to assigned patients through the operation of all hyperbaric medicine equipment according to department policies and procedures, and demonstrates clinical competency, prioritization, and problem solving skills during direct patient care; • Performs quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment and to crisis or emergency situations with patients or equipment in the department; • Performing physician ordered or clinically indicated tests and assessments as required; • Acting as a liaison between patient and physician; • Documenting assessments and unique patient issues as they occur. Quality Assurance; provides and meets ancillary patient needs, to include: • Evaluates the response of patients to treatment and other patient care interventions; • Attends, interacts, and participates in team interdisciplinary conferences by providing recommend revision of treatment plan of care as needed; • Maintains accurate patient medical records documentation by documenting all pertinent information and entering charges for procedures performed; • Consulting and relaying information to physicians, hospital staff, home health, and care givers as necessary.
Qualifications

Hyperbaric Technologist (Certified Eligible Requirements)
clinical experience in Hyperbaric Medicine and demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise.

Certified Requirements:
Skills/Knowledge: The Certified Hyperbaric Technician is a credential eligible clinician, who possess specialized education and clinical experience in Hyperbaric Medicine and demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise. Ability to work independently and as a member of a healthcare team. Must possess professional verbal and written communication skills, be able to handle multiple priorities and make decisions under pressure Must demonstrate knowledge of the physiologic effects of hyperbaric oxygen, risks and benefits, and desired outcome of therapy. Must possess and demonstrate the ability to safely operate the monoplace hyperbaric chamber systems and adjunctive life support and patient monitoring equipment.

Work Requirements

Must be able to move/transport patients via wheelchair or gurney regularly on a daily basis. A majority of the time the Wound Specialist is standing, bending, lifting, and/or reaching while working with patients. The remainder of the time is spent sitting at a desk charting or reading charts. Must be able to perform CPR.
