About the Job:

The HR Generalist reports to the Director of Human Resources and carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Recruitment, Payroll, Benefits, Safety and Training & Development.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Recruitment:

  • Involved in all four phases of employee recruitment: sourcing, interviewing, assessing & evaluating candidates as well as offering of employment for exempt and non-exempt positions.
  • Source resumes online and conducts phone screens for exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Coordinate interviews and background process.
  • Provide contingent job offer letters and job descriptions to new hires and send them for physical/drug screen.


Payroll:

  • Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing via payroll system for 350+ employees.
  • Create batches under payroll system for housing and call outs to compensate employees after each pay period.
  • Review ADP's time and attendance and payroll register before transmitting payroll to identify any discrepancies.
  • Document housing and leasing reports to accurately measure overtime pay in order to be in compliance with Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA).
  • Respond to payroll related inquiries for exempt and nonexempt employees.
  • Verify new hire documentation paperwork and enter into ADP HRIS system.
  • Process final checks for terminated employees.

Benefits & Safety:

  • Act as company Safety Coordinator.
  • Lead quarterly safety committee team meetings to achieve best safety practices.
  • Develop and implement effective health and safety practices throughout our properties.
  • Conduct on-site inspections after an injury by reviewing and conducting a root cause analysis.
  • Work with Worker's Compensation Broker, IMA, for quarterly safety meetings with our supervisors and building maintenance team.
  • Administer the safety tailgate program by providing safety trainings bi-weekly via e-mail to all of our properties between California, Texas and Arkansas.
  • Maintain confidential safety and accident information including workers compensation.
  • Order safety equipment and educate employees on using it to reduce on-the-job accidents.


SKILLS

  • Must demonstrate initiative, professionalism, integrity and exercise confidentiality in all areas of performance.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and select from written instructions and established protocols to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Since duties and tasks are frequently non-routine, must be able to resolve challenges logically and know when to refer more complex issues to a higher level.
  • Periodically assist in orienting and training newer employees.
  • Willingness to pitch in and work in areas for the betterment of the team and company.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload in order to maintain effective workflow.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Relate to others beyond giving and receiving instructions.

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration preferred.
  • PHR certification preferred.
  • 3 or more years of generalist and recruiting experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Operate computer and office equipment.
  • Work is primarily sedentary in nature.
  • Ability to push, pull and lift between 25-30 pounds.
