Reporting to the Executive Director of Human Resources and Benefits Administration, the Human Resources Generalist provides oversight for the daily operations of the Office of Human Resources including employment actions and employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, talent management and organizational development, orientation and retention, performance management, and other human resources-related functions. This position is responsible for ensuring policies, guidelines, procedures, workflows, and human resources information systems are in compliance with applicable federal and/or state employment regulations. This position works closely with college leadership and external vendors. This position will be the expert institutional resource for all human resources and employee benefits information systems policies and procedures and will implement processes and procedures that increase service to college operations.
Essential Functions
- Provides management oversight of human resource management information systems and applicant tracking systems. Ensures timely and accurate processing of all employment-related transactions including new employee hiring, terminations, benefit or compensation changes, and associated employment record management actions.
- Provides advice, guidance, training, and consultative support on employment-related matters to supervisors, hiring managers, and search committees. Serves as initial point of contact for applicants, new hires, supervisors, and managers, and for all other human resource needs.
- Advises and coaches managers and supervisors on performance improvement strategies or progressive discipline options, maintaining compliance with college policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Supports the day-to-day administration of employee benefits including education and support for employees with questions about employee benefits programs. Serve as a resource and liaison for training as applicable.
- Administers the college's annual performance evaluation program and associated systems. Actively engage with managers to train and assist them in writing effective performance reviews and having successful performance conversations on an ongoing basis.
- Assists in administering a variety of programs to recognize staff performance and contributions to their role and the college.
- Creates and conducts new employee and new supervisor orientation and training programs. Facilitates or conducts training sessions via in-classroom instruction or via online instruction.
- Works closely with the Chief Diversity Officer and the Executive Director of Compliance to actively contribute to the college's efforts to foster a diverse and inclusive campus community.
- Assists in the development and implementation of new and revised policies, forms, guidelines, and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Human Resources and Benefits Administration.

Supervisory Responsibility

Work Environment
Normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, and the like.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is not expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
- Business degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field.
- Minimum two (2) years of professional human resources administration experience.
- Working knowledge of manual and automated human resources management information systems, well-developed analytical capabilities, and demonstrated proficiency in computer and enterprise resource planning systems.
- Training and/or organizational development experience.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups and facilitate discussion.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field.
- Five (5) years professional human resources administration experience that includes at least two (2) years of experience in a similar role.
- SHRM certification.
- Experience with a not-for-profit or educational institution.
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague and/or PeopleSoft TMS.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
