HR Assistant (Federal Work Study Student Assistant)
Job description
Summary: The HR Assistant provides responsible administrative and clerical support and assists the Human Resources office in compiling and maintaining personnel records.
This position is a federal work-study position for the students who are eligible based on FAFSA. All potential Federal Work Study Student Assistants must be approved for and awarded Federal Work Study funding via the Golden Gate University Financial Aid Office.
Essential Functions:
- Act as the first point of contact via phone, in person or e-mail.
- Assist in onboarding new employees, including processing I-9's, scheduling background checks and benefits orientations, and conducting other in-person and e-mail new hire processes.
- Record employee information such as personal data, compensation, benefits, attendance and termination date and reason in HRIS.
- Update HRIS employee files to document personnel actions and to provide information for payroll and other uses.
- Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provide information to authorized persons.
- Collect and audit full-time and part-time employee timesheets and enter for use in payroll.
- Provide assistance to HR Generalist, Associate Director, Benefits administrator, and Payroll Manager in their functional areas.
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
- Applicants must be matriculated at Golden Gate University and must be currently enrolled at least half time with Federal Work Study Eligibility based on the FAFSA.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent analytic, clerical, and computer skills
- Initiative and openness to evolving responsibilities and work environment
- Strong attention to detail
