Department Summary
The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas, distinguished as one of the few Tier One research universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, and urban design. We have seven academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, UNT Workplace Inclusion & Sustainable Employment (WISE) and a number of professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.

Position Overview
The Budget Officer supports the College of Health and Public Service as the first line of financial and budgetary support for the college and completes financial transactions while ensuring compliance with all system, university, and division financial policies and procedures. This position reports to the Academic Research and Financial Officer.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with coursework in accounting, finance, business or related field and four years of progressively responsible financial administration or budget management experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Job Duties

o
Monitors revenues, expenditures and balances within a variety of types of budgets (operating, travel, gifts, fees, discretionary, etc.).

o
Collects and analyzes data, and prepares statistical and other types of reports for administrators.

o
Reports budgetary, fiscal and personnel status and departmental activities to unit heads.

o
Utilizes various university information systems to monitor and maintain budgetary information.

o
Prepares review and may approve a variety of forms for purchasing, travel, reimbursements and personnel/payroll.

o
Manages or participates in annual activities such as budget submission, merit raises, instructional fees, etc.

o
Provides budgetary and revenue estimates.

o
Performs other duties as assigned
