Summary/Objective
The Housing Navigator is a Supportive Services for Veteran Families staff that provides bridge support to the HUD-VASH team. The Housing Navigator will focus on landlord recruitment and retention and provide housing navigation assistance to veterans with more significant housing barriers.
Essential Functions
- Attends necessary HUD-VASH and SSVF staff meetings as assigned; working collaboratively with both teams
- Attends homeless/housing meetings to provide program presentations and update and build collaborative relations with area Public Housing Authorities, Veterans Service Officers, and landlords
- Conducts outreach to prospective landlords and property management groups on behalf of homeless veterans
- Locates suitable low-income permanent housing in the community
- Meeting Housing Quality Standard (HQS) requirements and PHA inspection needs.
- Maintains an inventory of safe, available units
- Maintains regular communication with landlords
- Educates individuals and organizations on the benefits of leasing to HUD-VASH veterans or veterans receiving SSVF Shallow Subsidies.
- Serves as a housing resource for veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
- Directly communicates with local housing authorities regarding inspection standards and paperwork
- Manage landlord incentives and client quality of life incentives for the designated geographical area
- Maintains accurate records and data needed for local and national reports

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or stooping as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Regular travel expected. Travel will include daily and overnight trips for essential program oversight and training.
Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in social services or related field.
- Familiar with veteran services and primarily SSVF or human service program delivery.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Masters' degree in human services or related field
- Two years of program management
- Five years of experience in the non-profit sector
- Military/Veteran experience
