JOB TITLE: HOUSEKEEPER - 1ST SHIFT - PER DIEM POSITION
REPORTS TO: LAUNDRY/HOUSEKEEPING SERVICES SUPERVISOR
JOB SUMMARY:
In the interest of maintaining clean, sanitary living and service areas at the Bay County Medical Care Facility, will provide a wide variety of housekeeping, sanitizing and disinfecting on a daily basis.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives cleaning assignment, determines what supplies are needed and obtains them from the storage area.- Cleans assigned areas using the following materials:
- Dusts and mops resident rooms, halls, service areas, stairways.
- Empties trash baskets, miscellaneous debris and removes it to proper location.
- Dusts lamps, window sills, baseboards, tables, beds, radiators. Will thoroughly clean doors, walls, beds, light switches, doorknobs using disinfectants. Periodically washes window interiors as needed.
- Cleans bathrooms daily by washing sinks, toilets, disinfecting porcelain, wiping pipes under the sink, hand sanitizer and soap dispensers, hand railings, mop base boards, mopping the bathroom and replacing paper towels and toilet tissue as needed.
- Staffing practice includes “Full Scrub” (thorough cleaning), of overhead lights, bed washing - rolled up and washed down, wiping out the window tracking, dusting knick-knacks, pulling out beds, night stands, picking up blue fall mats, and moving anything else that is easily moveable and then mopping the floor.
- Regularly uses disinfectants, glass cleaners, germicide spray, brushes, wet and dry mops, pails, housekeeping carts, bleach, etc.
- Coordinates work activity with nursing staff to minimize disruption and may explain processes to residents, family and visitors in a brief and courteous manner.
- Tasks regularly include lifting, furniture moving, reaching and bending. Utilizes safety practice and promptly corrects or alerts appropriate personnel to hazards noted.
- Notes items and equipment in need of repair and records them for corrective action.
- Receives designated task schedule and will incorporate with oral instruction.
- Is knowledgeable of Resident Rights and ensures resident privacy and dignity and helps ensure a safe, secure environment for all residents.
- Completes annual In-service training requirements, maintains acceptable attendance, and dresses in accordance with Dress Code Policy.
- Responsible for appropriate use of Facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste and fraud.
- Maintains confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and Facility information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent- Some knowledge of various cleaning agents and chemicals, HazCom/MSDS.
- Requires lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, lifting, pushing, reaching, climbing stairs, ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel and residents.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Time is spent in a resident care environment with minimal exposure to communicable diseases when using universal precaution methods, with possible exposure to blood and/or body fluids. Exposure to housekeeping/cleaning agents and chemicals on a regular basis.- Evening, weekend and holiday hours may be required
