Housekeeper
The George Mason University, Facilities Department invites applications for several Housekeeping positions for our Prince William Campus.

It’s busy and you’ll be beat, but don’t worry. In December, you’ll have two weeks off for a paid winter break. Yes, this is in addition to the other GMU paid holidays, 12 accrued paid days off per year, paid sick leave, comprehensive health/dental/vision benefits, industry leading retirement plans, professional development, tuition reimbursement and more. Please note – the two weeks winter break employees often receive during the holiday season is not regularly guaranteed and is subject to annual approval.
About the Position:
The Housekeeper, with supervision, performs general custodial services as directed within the campus.
- Cleans common areas, classrooms, hallways, and stairwells, moves and spot clean furniture, shampoos carpets, strips, waxes, and buffs floors;
- Cleans offices and classrooms to include desks, dusting, window ledges, window glass, furniture, doors, vacuuming, white boards and emptying trash;
- Cleans and restocks bathrooms, removes trash (daily). Reports all matters of safety to the appropriate supervisor;
- Communicates to Lead Housekeeper the need for additional cleaning supplies to maintain the appropriate level in respective housekeeping closets;
- Establishes and maintains a positive and operative working relationship with members of the department and the campus community;
- Effectively performs in a service environment;
- Follows all State, University and departmental policies, procedures and practices; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; and
- Some experience (generally one year of related work) or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the use of mechanical cleaning equipment is preferred.
Pay rates:
Day Shift – $16.35 / hour
Night Shift – $16.35 / hour
Overnight shift – $17.15 / hour
The following shifts are available:
9:00AM to 5:30PM (Mon to Fri) -Three (3) - FTE
9:00PM to 5:30AM (Sun to Thu) -Seven (7)

5:30PM to 1:30AM (Mon to Fri) -One (1)
FTE
3:00PM to 11:30PM (Sun to Thu) One (1)

9:30AM to 5:30PM (Tue to Sat) – Two (2)
