GCI's Housekeeper will perform various housekeeping tasks for guest lodging facilities at the Agulowak Retreat. Maintain adequate inventory of linens and cleaning supplies. Stock guest snack and beverage items. Set up daily coffee/tea service in guest buildings and assist other Retreat personnel in meeting the needs of Retreat guests.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform all manner of daily housekeeping tasks including changing bedding, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping, straightening guest rooms, common areas and kitchens. Launder bedding and linens and keep an adequate inventory of linens for guest use. Also perform periodic window cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping and other deep cleaning tasks of guest facilities. Assist Server & Housekeeper when needed.
  • Set-up and maintain daily coffee/tea service in all guest cabins. Stock beverage coolers and guest snack items. Wash dishes associated with guest beverage service and ensured adequate supply of dishes for guest use. Light and maintain fireplace and woodstoves in guest facilities. Periodically straighten guest common areas, decks and sauna building throughout the day.
  • Interact with guests and assist them in taking advantage of Retreat activities. Answer telephone and take messages for Retreat guests and staff.
  • Assist other Retreat personnel with organization and maintenance of Retreat supplied guest outdoor apparel.
  • Assist other Retreat personnel in maintaining Retreat flowerpots and beds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Have a thorough understanding of prioritized tasks and how a Retreat operates and what tasks must be performed to accomplish operational objectives and assure high quality service for guests.
  • Have basic housekeeping skills and knowledge regarding the safe use of various cleaning tools, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Be knowledgeable about and able to implement company safety procedures and Retreat safety policies.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and as a team, and to communicate effectively with other staff and Retreat guests.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a position with a similar range of duties required.
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications: Must complete the following company provided course within 30 days of start date: First Aid/CPR/AED training.

**Required to have completed COVID-19 vaccine series. **

Physical Requirements: Must be capable of performing a variety of physical functions involving lifting and carrying loads up to 50 lbs., lifting, climbing, reaching overhead, bending, standing for long periods and similar activities.

Working Conditions: Must live and work at a remote Retreat location (with employer provided room and board) for a period of approximately 18 weeks. Work schedule is 7 days per week. Some duties are performed outdoors with exposure to weather, cleaning agents, solvents and chemicals.

The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the normal business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. As such, you will be requested to provide emergency after hours contact numbers, to include your home and cell phone numbers if you have those services.

Driving Requirements (if applicable) : Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.
