Role purpose

Supervise horticultural technicians and seasonal employees in R&D Department.
Assist in HSE management, specifically in the R&D Department.
Assist in breeder seed, foundation seed, and stock seed production and maintenance.

Accountabilities

  • Coordinate with breeders daily so job priorities can be assessed, and labor force appropriately assigned.
  • Assist stock seed manager in the production of breeder, foundation, and stock seed, including cage and field productions.
  • Supervise and manage all maintenance items at greenhouse facility.
  • Supervise and manage all HSE activities and programs in the R&D department.
  • Assist in evaluating purity grow outs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED Required
  • Training or experience in one or more of the following areas: vegetable crop production, seed multiplication, agricultural quality assurance, seed technology, plant breeding or plant pathology
  • Leadership skills, attention to detail, enthusiasm for active learning, and an interest in plant biology.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy is required and good organizational abilities.
  • The position requires the ability to work for long periods in both field and greenhouse environments.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to obtain a CO pesticide license.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Requirements:

  • AS or BS college degree in an agriculture related field is preferred (Seed Technology, Horticulture, Plant Sciences, Breeding, Agronomy);
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Experience related to plant science or horticulture is preferred.
  • Strong management skills.
