JOB SUMMARY:
The Home Health Aide Trainee (HHA-T) is enrolled into a certified CNT program for 4-6 weeks upon hire to obtain the Nurse Assistant Certification (CNA). The Trainee must actively participate in all CNA course activities and successfully complete the program and certification. The HHA-T will be trained to provide direct personal and supportive care for home care patients on an intermittent or hourly basis, based on physician orders. The HHA-T is training to provide patient care and follows tasks as assigned on the patient’s individual plan of care, designed by the Registered Nurse.. This position works in conjunction with other members of nursing service, ancillary services, physicians, patients, and families
Your CNA education/training is paid for by Vanderbilt Home Care Services. You will receive an hourly rate of pay during your training period for the hours you attend training. (The 4th week is 40 hours at the nursing facility) Upon successful completion of all training and passing your state certification, you can be employed full time and must remain in this position for one full year.
Position Shift Information:
- 9am to 2pm class time Monday - Friday (3 weeks)
- 7am - 3pm (4th week) clinical training in Bellevue nursing home
- After completion of course, you must take the State exam to obtain your CNA license within 30 days (or show enrollment for the exam within that time frame)

The Home Health Quality team is a small task oriented team which consists of a quality educator, a quality data analyst, and quality reviewer. They work closely together with clinical managers to provide meaningful data on home health patient population and clinician best practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives training and instruction on review and performs tasks as defined on the personal care plan of the individual patient.
- Responsibilities vary based on Trainee’s progress in course but may include direct assistance with activities of daily living, bathing, toileting, obtaining vital signs, intake and outputs, weights, transferring, provides facial shaving, oral care, hair care and dressing under the direct supervision of a qualified clinician.
- The Home Health Aide Trainee reports any abnormal findings to the direct supervising clinician as appropriate for training purposes.
- The Home Health Aide Trainee adheres to practices and policies outlined to ensure patient safety and follows infection control and standards.
- Requires the ability to be self-directed and quality focused. Interpersonal communication skills are a necessary function of this position.
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
Strongly Preferred by Department:
- Care giving experience
- CPR certification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Physical Requirements/Strengths needed & Physical Demands:
- Medium Work category requiring exertion up to 50lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 20 of force frequently and/or up to 10 of force continually to move objects.

- Occasional: Lifting under 35 lbs: Raising and lowering objects under 35 lbs from one level to another
- Occasional: Lifting over 35 lbs: Raising and lowering objects from one level to another, includes upward pulling over 35 lbs, with help of coworkers or assistive device
- Occasional: Bending/Stooping: Trunk bending downward and forward by bending spine at waist requiring full use of lower extremities and back muscles
