ACHS is seeking a full-time HIM Technician in our Revenue Cycle team who will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- HIM technicians maintain, analyze, code, abstract and report medical records information. They are responsible for ensuring complete encounters, checking accuracy and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Specifics can include the following:
- Scan and import PHI (protected health information) into the EMR (electronic medical records) system to ensure complete documentation for each encounter to ensure patient care and support of charges.
- Monitors medical records to ensure appropriate patient record documentation of assessment, care, instructions given, medication refills, orders.
- Appropriate maintenance of medical records according to our Records Retention Policy.
- Releasing medical records to patients and medical offices as needed.
- Answering of operator phone and directing patients as needed.
- Coordinates with Revenue Cycle team members regarding charge entry, medical necessity, and coding/billing issues.
- Code disease and injury diagnoses, acuity of care, and procedures, using standard references for coding to include current ICD, CPT, HCPCS guidance.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Past successful usage of computer systems is required, to do data entry and information processing into medical record systems.
- The below items are all preferred:
- Technical or specialized training such as would be acquired in a college or technical school (CPC, etc) preferred.
- Medical terminology and uses, covering the full range of general medical, surgical, pharmaceutical, and hospital terms and abbreviations, as well as medical abstract is preferred
- Physiology, major anatomical systems, and related disease processes.
- Ability to correlate laboratory tests, procedures, and treatments with diagnoses.
- Legal and regulatory requirements for medical records.
- Laws and regulations on the confidentiality of medical records and the procedures for obtaining informed consent for release of information from the record.
- Skill to collect and organize data for statistical reports.
- Data collection methods for basic health care and research information.
