High Voltage Electrician
Job description
This is a Civilian position for the US Navy. The position is located within the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command SW Public Works Department at Naval Base Ventura County. Position assignment is at San Nicolas Island, an isolated base in an austere environment. Dependents are not allowed on the island.
Responsibilities
· You will serve as a journeyman High Voltage Electrician installing transformers, capacitors, insulators, lightening arrestors, switch circuit breakers, fuses, meters, protective devices, and other equipment for main distribution lines over 600V;
· You will troubleshoot cable systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance, or cable breaks, using such common electrical test devices as voltmeter, ohmmeter, and megger;
· You will read and understand circuit diagrams of interconnects such as the generators, buses, switches, and circuit breakers in a power-generating facility or distribution system.
· You will calculate circuit values, determine when operating limitations of equipment are exceeded, and/or recognize excessive current flow or other signs of improper operation;
You will splice wires/cables and form/seal various types of cable joints.
