High Performance Computing Engineer
Praxis recently was awarded a prime contract to perform High Performance Computing (HPC) support for a restricted customer and a few select mission partners. This contract provides scientific computing support, advanced computing capabilities, and interfacing IT infrastructures committed to enabling high fidelity, advanced analytics by delivering the highest quality technical capabilities and engineering support to its customers. The infrastructure includes state of the art hardware, software, and networks. The program supports an advanced computing infrastructure containing supercomputing clusters, GPGPUs, FPGAs, ASICs (pronounced /A-Six/), and Kubernetes clusters enabling high fidelity, advanced analytics. This environment provides unprecedented access to computational power and analytic throughput to solve the government’s most challenging computational and scientific problems.
What you will be doing
The HPC Engineer performs system-level analysis and design, trade studies of system components, recommendation of engineering approaches, architectures and solutions, and support for implementation, test and deployment of systems. Designs, develops and tests HPC solutions in embedded or real-time software, signal processing algorithms.
What you will need
- Provides system administration duties on Linux based HPC clusters; including cluster management, virtualization, cluster usage monitoring, health monitoring, job scheduling, and application integration/installation.
- Compiles, configures, and integrates GOTS, COTS, and open source codes/applications into HPC environments.
- Implements and manages high performance parallel file systems, e.g., Lustre.
- Implements and manages high performance interconnect technologies such as, Infiniband and Aries interconnects.
- Implements and manages computational accelerator technologies such as, GPGPU, FPGA, ASIC, and Xeon Phi.
- Improves cluster performance through kernel changes, firmware updates, library stack changes, and application container management such as Singularity, Kurbernetes or Docker.
- Implements and captures HPC metrics and benchmarks such as user metrics, resource metrics, job types and sizes, node utilization, etc.
- Implements and manages job schedulers such as Moab and Slurm.
- The High Performance Computing Engineer has either an M.S.E.E., or other technical degree, with nine years of professional experience, a B.S.E.E., or other technical degree, with a minimum of twelve years of professional experience, or no degree with a minimum of fifteen years of professional experience.
