GENERAL SUMMARY:
The hemodialysis technician is a facility trained, procedural oriented health care provider. The hemodialysis technician performs technical tasks following approved protocols to provide direct patient care as delegated by, and under the direct supervision of an RN.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Implements hemodialysis treatments, monitors dialysis parameters, and intervenes per approved protocols under the supervision of a RN.
- Maintains accurate documentation of pertinent treatment information; assists with department record keeping.
- Performs treatment specific tasks including obtaining lab specimens, providing access site care.
- Sets up, operates, dismantles, and sanitizes machines on the unit, performs basic troubleshooting.
- Participates in department Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance activities.
- Delivers excellent customer service, adheres to Beaumont Health’s customer standards and maintains professional behavior.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

- Education / Training:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of college in a scientific field is preferred.
- Work Experience:
- Significant experience in hemodialysis or related field may warrant waiving formal education requirement.
- Must successfully complete a formal patient care dialysis technician training program (approved and provided by the facility) before independently providing patient care; must successfully complete formal water treatment system training before performing water treatment system tasks.
- Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- BLS.
- Must achieve ESRD patient care certification through a national commercially-available certification program within 18 months of being hired as a dialysis patient care technician.
- Other Qualifications:
- Ability to demonstrate Beaumont customer service standards and behaviors in all aspects of job performance.
- Ability to use specific age and cultural related, physical, intellectual, psych-social
and developmental attributes in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
