Carolina Marine Structures, Inc. is a leading heavy civil marine contractor headquartered in Powells Point, NC with a satellite office in Virginia Beach, VA. We offer a wide range of services and turnkey solutions in marine construction, design, and specialty services on, over, and under the water throughout North Carolina and Virginia.
Due to extreme growth and expansion, Carolina Marine Structures is currently seeking an experienced Equipment Operator. The Equipment Operator must be able to demonstrate safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment. The Operator is expected to use his/her experience and judgment to make decisions considering safety and efficiency daily. This position is a crucial member; supporting and setting a pace with the crew, ensuring the work is done safely, and to the customer's and company’s expectations.
General Responsibilities:
- Operate all types of heavy and light equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections.
- Work with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program.
- Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
- Perform maintenance work to equipment.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Responsible for cleaning their equipment. Using hand tools to shovel dirt off the tracks.
- Must maintain their equipment and conduct pre-operational checks on equipment.
- Responsible for greasing fittings and checking fluids on a daily basis and must report accurate meter readings.
- Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the fuel levels of the equipment. Operators are expected to fuel their machines nightly as well as the end of the daily cleanup of the machine.
- While the primary duty of an Operator is to operate their machine, it is required from time to time to perform manual labor. All employees work together and assist each other as needed.
- Daily reporting is required to submit information about the day, which includes payroll time, equipment hour meter and working time description, as well as a quick summary of the day’s activities.
Requirements:
- Minimum three (3) years experience operating heavy equipment.
- Experience using hydraulic hammer attachments preferred.
- Experience with basic rigging, placing shoring/trench boxes, benching and scoping required.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license CDL is preferred.
- Ability to communicate in English via verbal and written communications
- Mathematical proficiency as it relates to basic geometry, algebra, and mathematics.
- Move throughout a construction jobsite which includes minor obstacles including climbing ladders and inclines, operating heavy equipment, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
- Work outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions such as rain, sun, snow, and wind.
