Heavy Equipment Operator

We are currently looking for experienced operators to bring on to our team. The heavy equipment operator operates a variety of construction equipment used in the construction industry. We are looking for operators who have experience in many of these machines such as backhoes, loaders, excavators etc. It is vital that applicants are eager to learn and work well in a team environment.

Essential Functions

  • Operate trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used for excavation and installation of underground utilities, such as backhoe, front-end loader, and hydraulic excavators.
  • Operate whackers, drills, gas cut off saws, generators and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and utility systems.
  • Work with and assist the line crew in trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe or front-end loader.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment.
  • Maintain proper care of equipment by greasing and cleaning equipment out daily.
  • Assist in training lower-level employees performing the maintenance and repair duties as required or assigned
  • Properly follows company and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Bring problems to the attention of the foreman, superintendent, safety coordinator or HR manager.
  • Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings
  • Even though classified as an operator, must be able to perform duties of a laborer upon demand
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 80 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Most work is located within the Central Valley. Weekly hours will average 45+/- dependent on weather and business demands.
