Summay:
This is a professional position that assures the continuation of good health related services for children enrolled in the Early Head Start and Head Start Programs. The person fulfilling this job is expected to complete assignments with a high standard of accuracy, attention to detail, and timely completion of work. This person works under the supervision of the Health and Nutrition Manager.
Responsibilities:
  • Works in collaboration with Family Advocates to obtaining complete medical, dental and developmental history for all enrolled children.
  • Assumes primary resposbility of all health related tracking and follow-up including but not limited to dental screenings, dental exams and follow-ups, physical exams, special health needs, and immuninzations.
  • Identify and assess medical needs of children, and arrange for treatment and/or refer parents to provider for treatment.
  • Arrange and participate in health care trainings for program staff, parents, and children.
  • Measures children heights and weights two times within the program year.
  • Completes visions and screenings on all enrolled children within the 45 day of his/her entry.
  • Works in collaborations with the Health and Nutrtion Manager to identify health needs of children to ensure health care plans are written and in the child’s file.
  • Follow –up to ensure the health care plans are followed up with the teaching teams and center manager.
  • Works in collaborations with Health and Nutrition Manager to plan staff trainings, first aide and CPR and other essential trainings as required (Shaken Baby, SIDS, Handwashing, Diaper Changing Procedure).
  • Maintain positive relationships with community partners.
  • Observe children in the classroom to detect health care needs.
  • Promotes a positive image of the Agency by ensuring an understanding of the program services available, training of staff, parents and volunteers, and conducting oneself according Agency Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain records as required by federal, state, and local mandates such as screening and follow-up results.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work and execute responsibilities as part of an agency-wide team.
  • Attends state and local trainings applicable to the position to Health services.
  • Additional task as assigned by your supervisor.
Compliance:
  • Adheres to the agency policy and procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, DCDEE regulations.
  • Assist with completing the Program Information Report (PIR).
  • Assist with maintaining the agency medical and dental health supplies.
  • Establishes and monitor services that ensures program quality and compliance with Head Start Program Standards.
  • Responsible for reporting Child Abuse and Neglect to immediate supervisior and/or the Child Development Division Director.
  • Adhere to Active Supervision policy.
  • Agency Code of Conduct Policy.
Professional Responsiblilities:
  • Responsiblitlies for reporting potential child abuse and neglect (Child Maltreatment) according to the Head Start/Early Start Policies and Procedures.
  • Must be able to periodically attend out of town conferences and training sessions as needed.
  • Maintains professional competency by participating in career development activities such as field related up-to-date continuing education/training and personal growth activities.
  • Responsible for maintaining professional training hours.
Parent and Community Engagment:
  • Works in collaborations with Center Managers, Family Advocates or other designated partners to support center based recruitment activities.
  • Actively work to identify and support volunteers and parents.
Position Qualifications:
Minimum
Bachelors degree in Science
Desired:
Master’s degree in Science
  • Two years experience in a related field.
  • Proficient in conversational Spanish and
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas clearly (both written and orally), listen accurately, and establish personal rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Exceptional customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective problem-solving and influencing skills.
  • Strong organizational, self-motivation, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), payroll systems and using the internet.
  • Proficiency using PC, mobile devices, scanner, copier, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as needed.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written materials and communication with families and staff as needed.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute percentage, and interpret and develop graphs.
  • Understanding and acceptance of regional cultural, religious and economic differences.
  • Ability to maintain dignity and self-control in stressful situations; objective about personal strengths and limitations.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours to meet Agency needs.
  • Valid North Carolina driving license.

Physical Requirements:
  • Push, pull, lift or carry up to as much as 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Visual/Audible Acuity Requirements:
  • Must be able to read and distinguish small print.
  • Must have depth perception and be able to distinguish basic colors.
  • Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and make self-understood while also understanding others using the English language.
Requirements for continued employment:
  • Maintain criminal background check.
  • Pass initial physical exam and complete an annual health questionnaire.
  • Complete a Tuberculosis (TB) every three years.
  • Must obtain a First Aid and Infant/Child CPR card within 90 days of hiring and keep current.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites, community resources, and home visits.
