- Assist and collaborate in the development and management of comprehensive programming of services designed to increase student retention.
- Develop and execute a case management approach to students entering healthcare programs from the program start through program completion.
- Assist with New Student Orientation in limited/selective admission programs.
- Assist with Boot Camps for continuing students in programs as appropriate.
- Be the point of contact or touchstone for referral of academically at-risk students from faculty and/or Dean.
- Develop and execute ongoing mentoring activities using college-wide resources.
- Actively engage students through ongoing, scheduled mentoring activities with a direct focus on program and degree completion.
- Support students via scheduled face-to-face and online/virtual appointments, face-to-face drop-in visits, email correspondence and other means of communication approved by the college.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Collaborate with the Dean, program faculty, and staff in actively monitoring student progress, providing intervention options as necessary.
- Track data and notes for each student using a central filing system.
- Assist with the collection and interpretation of data for reporting and program evaluation needs.
- Track student success in program courses and program completion.
- Correlate data of prerequisite course/admission criteria data to:
- Program course success
- Program completion (on time, delayed, dismissal)
- National/state examinations pass rates
- Maintain a working knowledge of campus processes and be able to connect students to other offices, resources, and information for needs identified.
- Participate in Advisory meetings for the Health Science programs.
- Serve on college-wide committees as needed.
- Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervision.
- Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in a healthcare field or related field from an accredited institution.
- Three years, or longer, teaching experience in the healthcare field.
- Strong record of working with individuals from diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to the Rock Valley College’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Core Values.

The Health Science Specialist actively engages students as a mentor, learning coach, liaison, and a key resource person from program admission through program completion and graduation. The Health Science Retention Specialist will design programs/initiatives to help decrease attrition and improve retention in the Health Science programs.
