As a Hardware Engineer (Electronics design) in R&D, you’ll work on innovating safety critical code for hard real time embedded systems that support everyday life, from critical, life-saving operations to everyday tasks, like flipping a light switch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Analyzes, designs, and develops conventional analog and digital circuits. Conducts moderate to complex design reviews to demonstrate product and circuit robustness and adherence to specifications under all operating conditions.
2. Develops hardware specifications and aids in preparation and review of system-level specifications.
3. Writes and analyzes thorough hardware test plans, executes functional tests, and evaluates test results to ensure circuit and product performance requirements are satisfied.
4. Prepares and maintains product development documentation, including design concept evaluations, detailed design and test documentation, product overview presentations and project notebooks.
5. Provides and maintains accurate project plans and hardware cost estimates. Manages and/or leads hardware projects of moderate complexity. Coordinates hardware engineering activities with purchasing, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines.
6. Mentors and directs the efforts of associate engineers and technicians.
7. Models and applies SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
8. Applies SEL’s Quality Policy: Understand. Create. Simplify.
9. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Hardware Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Typically 2+ years of combined experience in at least 2 of the following areas:
-- Digital design with microprocessors/FPGAs/SoCs

-- Analog circuit design

-- Power converter design

Experience with SPICE simulation and timing analysis

Working knowledge of project management processes and procedures
Excellent writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of one or more of the following:

-- Board-level circuit design with an emphasis on communications
-- High-speed digital and mixed-signal PCB layout
-- Industrial controls
-- 3-phase and electric power systems
-- Electric utility telecommunications

Product development leadership experience or training

Experience applying product standards and evaluating compliance/regulatory requirements
