JOB SUMMARYThe grounds maintenance Tech I is a key person in establishing the first impression with our customers (patients, visitors, city residents, physicians, all CCMH staff, and other external customers), by directly establishing and maintaining the external appearance of CCMH grounds and properties to have a positive impact on the public. Working under the supervision of the grounds supervisor, performs all duties required to develop and maintain lawns, landscape areas, trees, shrubs, parking lots, entrances, and other areas, as assigned. During winter months, is the primary responder for snow removal and other related duties to ensure that all CCMH properties are as free as possible of snow and ice in parking lots and walkways. Completes maintenance and repair on all grounds and snow removal equipment.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
-
Mow, trim, weed, water and fertilize lawn areas, trees and shrubs per schedule. Initiates changes, as needed, to ensure health and appearance of each.

Perform maintenance and repair on sprinkler irrigation systems including wells, valves, electrical boxes, piping, and coverage areas to ensure proper operation of system and effectiveness of sprinkler system.

Mix chemicals as needed for lawn/plant growth and as needed for insect control, as appropriate for the conditions and allowances of the city/county/state. Records data, reports, etc. to maintain chemical inventory and treatments of areas.

Plow, shovel, sweep, de-ice parking lots and sidewalks to ensure, as much as possible, safe clean driving and walking surfaces for patients, visitors and staff.

Use personnel protective equipment (PPE) as required for the protection of self and others. PPE includes, but is not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, equipment guards, etc.

Coordinates lawn and landscape needs with other duties to ensure that all activities are completed. Prioritizes the scheduling of all duties, activities.

Provides excellent customer service, demonstrates professionalism and courteous etiquette.

Demonstrates flexibility, positive interpersonal relations in fast paced work environment.

Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.

Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
-
Education: High school graduate or GED; courses in medical terminology or unit secretary training program.

Licensure: None.
-
Experience: Previous clerical or unit secretary experience preferred.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Hand/eye coordination, legible handwriting, computer skills, able to speak clearly, fine and gross dexterity.

Interpersonal Skills: Must relate well with patients, families, hospital staff, physicians, and public.

Essential Physical Requirements: Sitting for long periods of time. Requires lifting and carrying of supplies, typing, speaking coherently on the telephone.

Essential Mental Abilities: Able to comprehend technical medical terminology. Able to input orders, obtain patient information in computer. Able to think quickly, handle various projects simultaneously with attention to accuracy, prioritization, patient request, detail, memory, problem solving, reasoning, ability to memorize routine assignments, computer mnemonics, all with little or no supervision.

Essential Sensory Requirements: Corrected vision, hearing to normal range.

Exposure to Hazards: OSHA CATEGORY II TASKS THAT INVOLVE EXPOSURE TO BLOOD, BODY FLUIDS, OR TISSUES. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category II Tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category II Tasks.

. Hours of Work: 8- or 10-hour shifts, or otherwise as dictated by needs of the unit. May include both day and evening hours.
