Compensation: $35-$38/Hourly DOE. 15-25 hours per week, flexible opportunity may increase hourly commitment in February 2023. Benefits include medical, flexible spending account, and commuter benefits if work more than 20 hours a week

Position Description:
The Grant/Technical Writer will be accountable for researching and gathering information on specific DSCS programs so as to be able to write proposals, program reports, and other relevant communications. In addition, the Grant/Technical Writer will support the work of a State-funded project to describe and promote an innovative housing initiative for dissemination to other service providers for replication. Information gathered along with participant narration will be used to create a program manual. This work will include but not be limited to researching deadlines, drafting manual content, organizing summaries, as well as maintaining supportive external relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support in the writing of development-related materials, including proposals and program reports, and donor communications.
- Research and identify key steps for successful implementation of the agency's Stay Over Program, reading previously published podcast transcripts, articles and other materials available and analyzing reference tools to construct a narrative.
- Review published materials, and recommend revisions/changes in scope, format, and content to align with the new manual and toolkit.
- Create presentations and supportive visual aids to be presented statewide and nationally.
- Inventory and select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
- Attend and participate in regular editing and vision planning meetings.
Other Organizational Duties:
- Conduct business in accordance with the DSCS Employee Handbook, exercising sound judgment and serving the best interests of the agency and the community.
- Commit yourself to treating each community member with respect and dignity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Background in and passion for working with low-income and immigrant communities around issues of affordable housing, land use, and/or immigrant & worker rights; familiarity with these issues in the Mission District and San Francisco, highly desired.
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's in professional and technical writing and/or Communication preferred.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, basic computer and research skills required.
- Experience writing accurate, compelling proposals and narrative/manuals utilizing proper grammar and spelling is required. Experience preparing conference presentations preferred. Samples must be available upon request.
- Proficient background in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint required.
- Experience working in a non-profit environment preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) desirable but not required.
