The Excel Center for Adults, founded in 2014, is the first free public charter high school in Texas that provides adults ages 18-50 the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, complete an in-demand professional certification, and begin post-secondary education. The Excel Center offers programming that is specific to the adult learner experience such as accelerated academics and flexible scheduling, special programs, and resources, and supportive services to help students remove barriers they may encounter during their educational journey. Currently, The Excel center has two Austin-area campuses that serve both day and evening students in addition to three Justice Education campuses, located in Lockhart, Overton, and Diboll, TX.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary role of the Grant Accountant is to ensure proper financial reporting and compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for a non-profit organization as well as State and Federal guidelines related to grant funded activities. You will be the subject matter expert on federal, state, and local financial laws, policies, and procedures and be adept at translating them to stakeholders across the organization. You will also collaborate regularly with grant and program managers to develop strategies to optimize grant funded opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grant Accounting and Reporting
1. Review federal, state, and local grant fund activity for allowability and accuracy.
2. Submit fund activity reports and request payment for approved expenses.
3. Lead monthly grant meetings with grant/program managers to review and update spending plans.
4. Assist with budget preparation during grant applications.
5. Maintain grant handbooks.
6. Attend continuing education opportunities for grant related topics.
7. Assist with monthly and annual close by booking revenue accruals.
8. Preparation of the annual Statement of Expenditures of Federal Awards.
9. Collaborate with Compliance manager in preparation of annual Single Audit.
General Finance
1. Record cash receipts into the general ledger.
2. Manage day-to-day relationships with grant and program managers.
3. Organize and plan to meet critical deadlines.
4. Comply with local, state, and federal government requirements.
5. Report directly to Education Controller and communicate problems, issues, and areas of concern.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist with special accounting projects as needed.
2. Establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders.
3. Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
2. Two+ years accounting experience required, preferably in a non-profit or educational setting with knowledge of single audits and EDGAR regulations.
3. Knowledge of federal and state fund requirements.
4. Advanced MS Office skills in Excel.
5. Ethical behavior handling sensitive financial information.
6. Courteous, professional manner with strong customer service skills.
7. Detail-oriented mindset and problem-solving attitude.
8. Strong complex problem-solving skills.
9. Must possess understanding of marginalization and how it impacts those The Excel Center serves and employs.
10. Exhibit respect for diversity of thought and have experience to advance it in teams/organization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of Texas public education finance laws and requirements, including the TEA Accountability Resource Guide.
2. Experience with charter school financial reporting
3. Experience with Skyward Finance Database
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Starting at $60,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
