GQ is looking for a digital-first editor to oversee GQ Sports editorial programming across GQ’s platforms, including the site, social platforms, video and events.
This editorial leader will be responsible for creating and directing GQ Sports’ editorial strategy, including editing day-to-day site content and longform features, concepting new social and video franchises, and developing GQ Sports event opportunities.
This is a highly collaborative and cross-functional role, and will involve coordination across editorial, video, social, audience development, events and commercial teams. The Director will develop new ways for GQ Sports to cover breaking news, live events, and cultural tentpoles in cross-platform ways. They will manage a team of writers and editors, alongside talent teams, to direct GQ Sports’ coverage of important athletes, leagues, teams, and more.
Ideal candidates will have a deep editorial experience and enthusiasm for sports. They should be extremely familiar with the culture’s biggest athletes and have an ability to tell unique and nuanced stories about them across multiple platforms through the GQ lens. Candidates must also be highly self-directed leaders, with a strong editorial point of view and collaborative spirit. They should be able to manage brand goals, pitch big creative concepts, and be able to clearly communicate the GQ Sports voice, vision, and identity.
This role will report directly to the Global Director of Content Strategy for GQ.
Responsibilities:

Develop a multi-platform editorial strategy to drive audience engagement and growth across GQ.com, video and social platforms.

Communicate the GQ Sports editorial strategy across internal stakeholders and externally

Pitch, assign, and edit daily sports content.

Manage staff writers and attract and build a team of attention-grabbing freelance writers.

Collaborate with social, video, talent and audience development departments to create multi-platform GQ Sports content, with a specific focus on new video series

Work closely with Global Director of Content Strategy and Global Director of Editorial Operations to develop GQ Sports special projects to drive commercial and consumer revenue

Participate in and contribute to broader editorial brainstorms and ideas meetings

Direct the GQ Sports editorial coverage of live events, breaking news, and cultural tentpoles across the site, social and video.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:

Deep interest and enthusiasm for developing the GQ Sports brand

Experience assigning and editing sports-adjacent coverage, including experience booking athletes for editorial projects

Ability to work with freelance writers to develop pitches and hone structure, tone and voice

Experience working with data analytics to inform editorial decisions

Ability to develop content that works across multiple platforms, with a deep understanding of social media and video
