Job description
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician is responsible for maintaining base data layers in the Town’s GIS databases which include addresses, streets, parcels, subdivisions and other town assets related to Public Works and Utilities. Incumbent will also be responsible for reviewing development plans to assign addresses and street names for new development and to communicate this information with the public and other governmental entities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Updates GIS data for Town assets using CAD files, development plans and GPS software and equipment;- Assigns and maintains addresses in the GIS database that are required by and/or requested by Town departments for development or permitting purposes;
- Reviews development plans and assigns street names in conformance with the Town’s Street Naming and Addressing Policy; Creates and maintains street centerlines in the GIS database;
- Prepares communications with internal/external customers regarding addresses and/or street name information;
- Updates parcel and subdivision information for new development;
- Creates and/or updates maps and graphics using GIS software and related equipment;
- Assists with other mapping and/or data projects;
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

SKILLS
