The Geoprocessing Specialist III for the Permit Systems and Program Support Branch, Geographic Information System (GIS) Support Section, will serve as a consultant to management in multiple agencies for the establishment and implementation of geoprocessing systems.

The Geoprocessing Specialist III for the Permit Systems and Program Support Branch, Geographic Information System (GIS) Support Section, will serve as a consultant to management in multiple agencies for the establishment and implementation of geoprocessing systems.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Designs, develops and modifies custom tools and applications to meet the GIS needs of the end users, using Python, ArcPy and other programming languages as necessary.
- Designs and maintains spatial database libraries for end users and maintains the efficient storage and modification of spatial data.
- Provides GIS technology support to end users, including application and software updates, troubleshooting, providing training for custom applications, and responding to GIS user assistance requests using both ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro.
- Acts as a consultant to develop the Division agency standards, policies and procedures in the development of a comprehensive GIS in regards to permit review process.
- Produces customized cartographic and database products for special projects upon request.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree. Applicant must have successfully completed six semester hours in computer science, data processing, or geographic information system courses.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years experience in geoprocessing.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's of science degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: One year experience in geoprocessing will substitute for the six semester hour requirement. Experience in manual mapping techniques, photogrammetry, or land surveying will substitute for the bachelor's degree on the basis of 18 months experience for one year of education.

Incumbents working in this job title perform duties in an office setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
