Position Summary

The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student’s field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.



Additional Details
The primary role of the ISSS Graduate Assistant position is to assist the Senior International Advisor and International Student Advisor in International Programs Center’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) unit, in serving international students on the UNCG campus. The Graduate Assistant will have the opportunity to gain a well-rounded experience in an international education office setting. For a candidate considering a career in the international education field, the office may provide opportunities for advisor shadowing, international programming participation and conference attendance. The position is responsible for file maintenance, assisting the Senior International Advisor and International Student Advisor to collect, prepare, and review immigration and related documentation utilizing the Terra Dotta Case Management System, and other admissions software. An important aspect of the position is assisting with student traffic. The Graduate Assistant will also be responsible for other administrative tasks, research, and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must:
  • Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
  • Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
  • Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.

Additional Minimum Qualifications
Preferred

  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms
  • Experience with virtual platforms
