The Hood County News seeks a full-time reporter to take our coverage to the next level.
We are an award-winning community newspaper located in Granbury, Texas covering all of Hood County and the surrounding area. We strive for our coverage to be “hyper local”.

We are located just minutes (40 miles) from the cultural amenities of the DFW metroplex but still just far enough away to have that relaxed, small-town vibe. Granbury has been awarded the Best Historic Small Town in America three years in a row by USA Today, and its town square is a center for entertainment, dining and shopping.

The HCN publishes twice each week, coupled with online and social media components.

QUALIFICATIONS.

• Candidates should have some work experience or a combination of education and internships at a small community newspaper.
• Knowledge of Associated Press style is a must.
• We offer a competitive salary ($35k and up, and benefits including health insurance, paid time off and mileage reimbursement).

SKILLS NEEDED:
-- Superb communication and time-management abilities.
-- Cultivate sources and generate story ideas in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
-- Developing multi-tasking abilities and deal with time pressures.
-- Flexibility to assist in other tasks as needed.
-- Writing (grammar, style, narrative).
— Strong interpersonal skills.
— Strong computer skills, including Microsoft systems.
— Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
