About this role:

This is a full-time, permanent, exempt position reporting to the Web Development Manager. Starting salary ranges from $50,000-$80,000 DOE.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who embraces autonomy and is dynamic, adaptable and curious. In this role you will work closely with the team to create a high-quality, performant experience to delight our customers while meeting our marketing objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Writing sound code that runs efficiently and meets all project requirements
  • Creating pages that are responsive, fast, and accessible across devices and browsers
  • Leveraging reusable code and libraries and crafting custom tools as necessary
  • Collaborating and communicating daily with the team
  • Writing up bugs, stories, documentation and research notes as needed
  • Maintaining a holistic view of our code across sites, with priorities on simplicity, quality, and usability
  • Participating in team discussions to improve processes as we question the status quo
  • Staying current with our products as well as relevant development languages, tools, trends, and best practices
  • Translating wireframes and mockups from designers into fully realized user experiences
  • Participating in code reviews and sharing knowledge with other team members

Education, experience & skills required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related field) is valued, but equivalent education and/or professional experience is welcomed
  • Web development experience in a production environment
  • Able to demonstrate coding skills and an understanding of good website design and development practices

Education, experience & skills preferred:

Familiarity with or expertise in one or more of the following:

  • Web development tools and concepts: PHP 8, SCSS, JavaScript, ES6, MySQL, AJAX, REST, and/or JSON, and image optimization
  • SEO: principles, assessment criteria, and development approaches
  • Implementing concepts for the web from design tools such as Figma, Photoshop or similar
  • Web page speed analysis and performance optimization
  • Layout technologies and design systems such as Bootstrap, Flexbox, and Atomic Design
  • WordPress front-end and back-end development (Gutenberg blocks, themes, plugins, etc…)
  • Web application security
  • Object-Oriented PHP
  • Git version control
  • Bash command line
  • LNMP Stack or similar
  • Docker containerization
  • Testing frameworks (Cypress, Jest, PHPUnit)
  • Mark-up language templating such as Mustache and/or Handlebars
  • Building mockups, prototyping solutions, and iterating to support the design journey
  • SDKs and APIs
  • Jenkins and task runners
  • CICD

About our Web Development team:

We are a team comprised of Web Developers, Interns, QA, DevOps and a Project Manager. We work closely with the larger Marketing team and Designer to build and maintain the Palo Alto Software marketing websites and blogs.

We work in an Agile Kanban-based method with opportunities for empowered development work and cross-team hackdays each month. Our deploy and workflow processes are solid, and include a mix of CICD and weekly epic releases across multiple environments (Dev, QA, Stage, and Prod). We have adopted some commonalities across the team, like macOS, spaces not tabs, and bash (w/ a GNU slant), but we're always open to new ideas.

We value good communication, getting the job done well, and maintaining a supportive work environment. We stay connected through daily stand-up's, weekly meetings (1:1s, team, and estimation), and monthly retros.
