POSITION: Full-Time Long Term Substitute Physical Education Teacher
REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal
START DATE: 2/6/2023

Bridges Public Charter School serves students in grade Pre-K3 to 5th grade.
Overview of the Role
Provide physical education services to students for proposed dates of 2/6/23 - 4/28/23
The physical education teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.
Under the supervision of the assistant principal, the physical education teacher assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences in physical education and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops physically literate and health focused students in the areas of fitness, skill, attitude, and knowledge to meet and exceed the National Association for Sport and Physical Education and the District of Columbia Physical Education Standards and Goals. Physical education teachers will use the District of Columbia Physical Education standards to design a Scope and Sequence and Curriculum Maps to implement a robust and comprehensive physical education program that challenges all students at an appropriate level.

The following are the primary responsibilities of the position; additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
Teaching and Learning
- Be responsible for instructional planning, including, but not limited to, providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the physical education standards and instructional program.
- Establish positive learning expectation standards for all pupils, and evaluate pupils' progress and maintain current and accurate records of pupils' achievements.
- Participate in the development and implementation of new developmentally appropriate teaching techniques.
- Exhibit and apply knowledge of the curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
- Participate in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings, as needed and use pertinent information and materials provided.
- Be a collaborative member of the specials team: school garden coordinator, music, art and Spanish.
- Gather, examine and use physical education data to improve learning and skill acquisition.
- Use the PowerSchool data tracking system to create report cards for students.
- Assist with planning school wide events in support of healthy choices.
The Ideal Candidate will:
- Embrace serving students with Special Education needs and English language learners.
- Have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Physical Education.
- Have successful completion of all student teaching requirements as well as all course work required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the District of Columbia.
- Have content expertise in a physical education instruction
- Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent and understanding.
- Have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Have unquestioned integrity and commitment to the Bridges PCS mission
SALARY & BENEFITS
This is an hourly position for M-F, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Hourly rate range is $35/hour.
School year calendar will detail days of work.
