POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the office manager, the front desk/medical assistant is responsible for verifying demographic and insurance information, obtaining vitals and a medication list and rooming the patients. The MA will assist the physician with any office procedures. Upon check out, the MA will schedule any procedures and/or office visits.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Three (3) years of experience, preferably in a Health Care Facility
- Ability to speak and understand the English language
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Basic computer skills DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone
- Collects patient identification cards
- Collects patient insurance information and copies the cards
- Ensures that documentation is completed and.all necessary documents are signed by the patient
- Updates patient accounts by recording personal and financial information in the electronic medical record
- Collects copayments
- Records payments in the billing system or log as required
- Issues receipts for payments received
- Balances upfront collections at the end of the shift
- Accepts refrigerated deliveries and places medications in refrigerator
- Maintains office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level
- Protects patient's rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information
- Maintains strict adherence to the practice's policies and procedures; reports needed changes and discrepancies
- Completes all required in-service and continuing education as required
- Regular and predictable attendance

- Ability to effectively communicate patient care needs and significant information to healthcare team to promote continuity of patient care
- Ability to respond to questions and professionally interact verbally and/or written with physicians, managers, co-workers, patients and the general public

- Work well with others-be a team member
- Report observed or suspected safely violations, hazards, and policy/procedure non-compliance to Safety Officer or other designated person, following the chain of command
- Participate in staff meetings LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to understand, read, write and speak English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to successfully write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professional interact with physicians, managers, co-workers, patients and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and correct errors. Ability to understand and interpret basic financial data. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in a variety of forms and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Days and hours of work vary to meet patients and physicians needs
- The office is a well-lit, ventilated and climate controlled environment
- Staff will work with medical and office equipment, some of which will have moving parts
- Noise level is usually quiet to moderate
- Staff will work in close proximity to patients and co-workers
- Travel to satellite offices may be required
- Promotes a favorable image of the practice to physicians, patients, insurance companies, and the general public.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $12.50 - $15.73 per hour
