FOUNDATION RELATIONS OFFICER, Resource Development-Office of Foundation Relations (OFR), to manage a portfolio of philanthropic organizations and engage in strategy development, prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of these organizations. Will serve as the point person for the portfolio and designated MIT areas of focus; work closely with colleagues within OFR, other units of Resource Development, and across MIT to help secure, track, process, and steward all funding related to their areas of campus or portfolio; develop relationships with donor entities; inform strategy and generate funds for MIT; engage in prospect research; create clear written communications; and plan/staff in-person and virtual meetings with prospects and donors.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least two years’ experience in development or advancement field or in a related nonprofit/educational setting; experience in an academic setting or complex and highly nuanced work environment; excellent project management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and communication (written, verbal, listening) skills; emotional intelligence for engaging and building relationships with colleagues/faculty/alumni/donors; strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills for building relationships on behalf of MIT; sound judgment with confidential information; and proficiency with computers and standard applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Must be able to initiate and manage projects; keep multiple projects on track and within deadlines while maintaining attention to detail; translate academic and technical content to lay audiences, orally and in writing; work independently and collaboratively; and engage effectively with faculty, leadership, administrative staff, donors, and other external constituents. PREFERRED: master’s/advanced degree; experience with private foundations/philanthropic organizations and/or federal sources of support; familiarity with prospect research methods and tools; and knowledge of Advance and web presentation software, e.g., Zoom and/or WebEx. Willingness and ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends is required.

This position will be hybrid, with a combination of on-campus and remote work.
