The Forensic Review Clinician will work with a team on researching issues to determine feasibility of reducing medical costs through prospective solutions of claim system processes and claim business rules.
This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of (8:00am - 5:00pm). It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct Forensic Reviews using independent clinical knowledge to compare and analyze charge details of various amounts of total billed charges to determine benefit of full clinical review and estimation of adjustments for the purpose of meeting core business operations.
- Complete analysis per billing and departmental guidelines
- Complete focused review of medical records to evaluate clinical course of care as applicable
- Participate in the Clinical Integrity Team by identifying savings opportunities, researching exceptions, and preparing documented guidelines per process
- Assist the Resolution team as needed to support negotiations and appeals process
- Interact with clients and consultants as requested
- Maintain appropriate documentation on all claims according to departmental guidelines and procedures
- Participate as needed in creation and completion of department goals
- Perform research to support audit adjustments and resolve issues
- Research reference materials for clinical standards as appropriate
- Perform research to create new adjustments and business rules for goal of meeting core business operations
- Review and respond to research inquiries from team members and complete special research projects
- Understand and maintain HIPAA confidentiality and privacy standards when completing assigned work
- Participate in department and company meetings as requested

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED (or Higher)
- RN or LPN unrestricted license
- 2+ years of clinical experience in an acute care setting.
- Experience with medical terminology and ICD-10 coding.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
Preferred Qualifications:
- Auditing and/or coding certifications
- Experience with bill review.
- Experience with billing, charge master, and/or compliance.
- Experience with payer medical policies
- Experience with CMS guidelines
Telecommuting Requirements:
- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
- Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
Soft Skills:
- Strong clinical, medical record review, analytical and research skills
- Advanced Microsoft Office computer skills, specifically Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and work with little direction
- Team player
