Job Summary:

Food Runners will be responsible for serving the guest in a gracious and professional manner that represents the highest of standards to ensure exceptional service to all guests that is consistent and continually in accordance to Innovation Hotel service standards and Mainsail Lodging & Development standards. Primarily responsible for coordinating the delivery of food to tables, requesting assistance when needed.

Essential Functions

  • Report to work on time and in proper uniform/approved attire
  • Works well with all team members within the department and the hotel
  • Ensures station is set up with necessary garnishes and mis-en-place
  • Ensures all dishes leaving the kitchen are at highest level of quality
  • Ensures hot food is hot, cold food is cold, all garnished correctly
  • Follows directions from expeditor for food delivery priorities
  • Ensures every food item is accounted for prior to running
  • Asks for assistance when necessary to guarantee all food is delivered at the same time
  • Safely stores all food order tickets in an organized manner to avoid misplaced tickets, that can be referred to later if necessary
  • Keeps own work area of the kitchen clean and organized
  • Delivers dishes according to seat numbers; does not “auction off” dishes at the table
  • Studies and understands menu items in order to explain each dish and its components when placing in front of guest if the server is not available to do so
  • After delivering food, and after any interaction, always offers guest additional assistance; communicates guest requests to server as needed or handles request with a sense of urgency
  • Always carries extra silverware and napkins to replace missing items at tables
  • Communicates with servers to ensure efficient timing and delivery of menu courses
  • Assists servers and bartenders as needed
  • Completes all side work at start and end of shift. Restocks all china, glass and silverware during shift as directed
  • Available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation as directed by management
  • Adheres to Innovation Hotel standards for guest service
  • Refers guest problems or complaints to supervisor according to Innovation Hotel guest problem resolution policy
  • Reports and documents any observed or known safety hazards, conditions or unsafe practices and procedures to management immediately
  • Performs other job-related duties as directed
  • Never solicit tips
  • Attend monthly department meetings and daily stand ups
  • Perform other duties as management requests to service our guests
  • Follow the procedures addressed in the training manual


Qualification Standards

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or higher
  • Previous Server Assistant, Back waiter, or Food Runner experience in Southwest Florida area preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to use technology, e.g. tablets

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and in a potentially hot area under a heat lamp
  • Ability to walk and bend
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Corrected vision to normal range
  • Long hours sometimes required

  • Work on multiple tasks, making appropriate progress towards deadlines
  • Able to work independently, take direction and provide direction to others
