Job Summary:
Perform field service duties associated with the installation, adjustment, and troubleshooting of high-voltage switches and switching devices in electric utility substations. The devices include disconnect switches, circuit switchers, load break switches, capacitor switches, circuit breakers, mobile trailers, ballistic walls and other products. Have intermediate to advanced knowledge of Southern States products and be able to perform work on products in the field
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems.
  • Study blueprints, schematics, manuals, or other specifications to determine installation procedures.
  • Repair or adjust equipment, machines, or defective components, replacing worn parts, such as gaskets or seals in watertight electrical equipment.
  • Maintain equipment logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations, or tests.
  • Inspect components of industrial equipment for accurate assembly and installation or for defects, such as loose connections or frayed wires.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning, or repairing equipment, to detect and prevent problems.
  • Calibrate testing instruments and installed or repaired equipment to prescribed specifications.
  • Examine work orders and converse with equipment operators to detect equipment problems and to ascertain whether mechanical or human errors contributed to the problems.
  • Set up and test industrial equipment to ensure that it functions properly.
  • Operate equipment to demonstrate proper use or to analyze malfunctions.
  • Maintains highest priority on meeting customer expectations.
  • Maintains company property and assets in accordance with established policies.

Other Responsibilities:

  • When directed, coordinates with and assists other departments in solving problems.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Associates degree, vocational degree or higher
  • Experience: Five years’ experience working with electrical controls, relays, or electronics.
  • Travel 50%: Ability to travel domestically and internationally on short notice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be self-sufficient at problem solving.
  • Candidate should have good electro-mechanical aptitude.
  • Reliable and dependable.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Professional at all times when representing Southern States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: Five years’ experience working with high voltage substation equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating mechanism layouts and designs.
