About This Role:
The Nanotechnology lab in the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering department at Kansas State University needs a highly motivated research associate in the field on Nanotechnology and Ceramic composites. The research will mainly be focused on nanotechnology with focus on synthesis of advanced materials such as molecular precursor derived ceramics and layered materials with applications in energy devices. The research work involves synthesis of preceramic polymers, fiber processing, manufacture of ceramic matric composites, nanomaterials using liquid phase exfoliation and characterization using electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and Mechanical testing. The candidate has an overall responsibility to perform the experiments, analyze the data, and write journal papers/technical reports.

What You'll Need to Succeed: Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, material science or related disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience as Graduate Research Assistant, Post doc or Research Scientist involving:
Demonstrated experience with precursor derived ceramics such as silicon oxycarbide or silicon boron oxycarbide
Synthesis of preceramic polymers for silicon oxycarbide with varying carbon content.
Experience in polymer and ceramic matrix composites.
Expertise in X-ray diffractometer, electron microscope and Raman Spectroscope
Experience in synthesis of layered nanomaterials
Experience in a wide-range of testing techniques such as mechanical testing and impedance methods etc.
Excellent spoken English and writing skills
