The Virginia Department of Education, Office of School Quality (OSQ), is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to lead OSQ work in the development and implementation of processes to monitor schools who are federally-identified as not meeting federal accountability standards. The incumbent will be responsible for: working collaboratively across the agency to ensure accurate identification of schools based on federal accountability standards; leading the monitoring process for schools who are federally-identified; and providing accurate interpretation of regulations, and technical information and services to LEAs and the public regarding federal accountability requirements. This position will also serve as the OSQ point of contact to work with schools in an identified Superintendents’ Region; support schools who are not fully accredited and require support and monitoring per identified processes; participate on OSQ teams including Academic Reviews, Comprehensive Needs Assessments, Division Level Reviews, Continuous School Improvement initiatives; and assist the director in the effective management and leadership of the OSQ team.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge of continuous school improvement models and research; federal school improvement legislation and Virginia’s federal school improvement plan;
  • Considerable knowledge of school reform initiatives to address student achievement, and of issues, trends and best practices in the area of division- and school-level support for challenged schools;
  • Knowledge of school and division continuous improvement process planning, and program evaluation; experience in budget management;
  • Demonstrated ability to use school and division data to drive instruction, implement new instructional programs, and evaluate and modify division practices that support school improvement and student success;
  • Knowledge of research methods, project management and information systems;
  • Demonstrated ability to apply problem solving techniques to complex educational situations, and effectively present complex information to technical and lay audiences in writing and orally.
  • Participate as a member of project team to produce and complete projects, and manage multiple assignments with critical deadlines
  • Experience in coordinating and implementing school and division level initiatives for challenged schools at school- and or division-level

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from a college or university with an advanced degree in the field of education
  • Post Graduate Professional License or other professional license approved by VA for instructional personnel

  • Successful candidate must pass a criminal background check.
