Job Description: Farmland Acquisition Associate

Farmland LP is a private investment fund manager that purchases and converts conventional farmland to sustainably managed and certified organic farmland. Farmland LP was founded in 2009 and currently owns $200 million of farmland assets in Northern California, Oregon’s Willamette Valley, and Walla Walla, Washington. We are seeking a Farmland Acquisition Associate, to be based in the Pacific Northwest or on the west coast. The Associate will work to develop farmland acquisition strategies, identify potential properties, maintain an active pipeline of potential acquisitions, and conduct acquisition due diligence and analysis. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of professional experience in farmland or real estate acquisition, brokerage, or valuation.
Skills & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement farmland acquisition strategies, maintain active pipeline of potential acquisitions
- Source potential properties by leveraging relationships with farmers, brokers, appraisers, local and regional contacts, digital resources, and networking events
- Gather and interpret data, assist with financial evaluation, modeling, and due diligence to assess property acquisitions
- Work with finance team to develop budgets for property acquisitions
- Review property acquisition documents, including purchase agreements, contracts, underlying leases, title documents, riparian rights
- Work with crop insurers to underwrite farmland acquisitions
- Assist with property acquisition negotiations
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years real estate or farmland acquisition, brokerage, or valuation experience o Brokerage experience in buying and/or selling commercial real estate; agriculture experience a plus
- Real estate business development and marketing knowledge, including developing acquisition budgets
- Pacific Northwest/west coast location
- Knowledge of the Pacific Northwest agriculture market and existing relationships with local farmers, property owners
- Experience working with real estate acquisition counsel a plus
- Familiarity with mapping and GIS technologies
- Undergraduate degree
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and acquisitions simultaneously and in a timely manner
- Strong attention to detail and project management
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
