Position Summary:

The Facilities Division of OVG360 has an exciting opening for a Facility Maintenance Technician on the campus of Arizona State University for the new 5,000 seat multi-purpose arena and community ice rink. The new arena is scheduled to open in fall 2022 and will be home to ASU Sun Devil Men’s Ice Hockey, ASU Wrestling and Women’s Gymnastics programs, an NHL franchise, as well as variety of events, including concerts, family shows, comedy and other live events. The new community ice rink will serve as a public venue to the community and will host hockey and skating programming, youth competitions, educational opportunities and more.

The position reports directly to the Chief Engineer and will manage and maintain the facility and its systems. This individual will routinely check and repair drywall, paint, electrical, plumbing, ventilation, refrigeration, and other building systems within the facility. This individual will interact with guests at times and requires the ability to communicate and engage with the public with a focus on delivering a world class guest experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Chief Engineer with the overall daily operation and maintenance of all facility systems. This includes but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, BMS, Lighting, Fire Protection, Life Safety, CMMS, Workplace Safety, Carpentry, Drywall, and Painting.
  • Work with other operational departments to evaluate needs for all work requests—both scheduled and unscheduled—as well as any special projects that arise.
  • Coordinate and follow up on preventative maintenance on building doors, overhead doors, plumbing, and electrical,
  • Assist in repairs involving electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems, sports event equipment and other equipment needed to produce events.
  • Coordinate and follow up on incidental plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, doors, painting and drywall work.
  • Review and maintain maintenance logs and maintenance budgets and complete all documentation necessary to the completion of a task within the complex’s CMMS program.
  • On a routine and preset basis, inspect systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects or the need for adjustment or repair, as well as to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Responsible for oversite and processing of assigned facility work orders and completion in the appropriate timeframe.
  • Event coverage to include, but not limited to management of Building Systems related to ALL MEP Systems in the complex.
  • Assist with the monitoring of vendors and outside contractors as appropriate.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with service contractors, suppliers, utility companies and firms doing business with the complex
  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance according to established schedules.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate preventative maintenance and repair records regarding annual inspections of equipment and MEP systems.
  • Responsible for reporting of accidents involving personnel, vehicles, public liability, property damage and fidelity claims.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and initiates requests for repair parts and service.
  • Assists in new construction, remodeling, and maintenance projects.
  • Responsible for Health & Safety compliance.
  • Make immediate decisions and communicate with the Chief Engineer in an emergency.
  • Comply with established OSHA procedures.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
Requirements:


Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience in facility maintenance
  • 2+ years of experience in the field, Sports/Entertainment/Hospitality venues preferred
  • HS diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s/Technical degree from an accredited college/university/school preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required
  • Must be a self-starter, proactive, flexible, and deadline-focused
  • Forklift certified or ability to be certified
  • Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge of Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting.
  • Knowledge of Fire Alarm / Fire Protection systems preferred.
  • Possess high degree of discretion, integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Professional image and demeanor.
  • As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test.

Nonessential Job Functions:

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Experience in an arena, stadium, convention center or other multi-purpose public assembly facility preferred
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid CPR certificate

Skills

  • Proficient knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office software
  • Operate standard office equipment including printer, copier, computer and fax machine.
  • Written/Oral communications - ability to speak and write clearly and concisely, get messages across that have the desired effect

Working Conditions:

  • Minimal Travel (<5% of work time) may be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
