FACILITY MAINTENANCE MECHANIC POSITION
This non-profit, independent scientific research facility affiliated with Yale University, is seeking a part-time experienced Maintenance Mechanic to service a 38,000 square foot, three-story facility. Conveniently located in downtown New Haven, the Lab affords a unique employment environment, where you will interact with a small professional group of scientists and support staff within the Laboratory. Free parking on premises.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Works under the direction of the Director of Facilities. Is responsible for performing highly skilled maintenance at The John B. Pierce Laboratory building, and related properties.
GENERAL DUTIES:
Must be able to perform a variety of building maintenance tasks with more than average skill in several of the following areas: carpentry, painting, sheetrock, taping, and general repair. May erect partitions, patch walls, service doors, locks, and keys. May construct and repair furniture, bookcases, shelving, and cabinets. May do painting from preparation of surface through to finish coat. Hanging of any needed wall or ceiling items. May perform in-house PMs on related building equipment. May perform custodial work, material handling, and event setup as needed. Maintenance Mechanic may be supervised by other employees assigned to work with them.
REQUIRMENTS:
1. Must be able to climb ladders, be able to bend, kneel, and squat. Work in tight areas, overhead, and in all weather conditions. Move materials, tools, and equipment up to fifty pounds.
2. Must have a working knowledge of tools and procedures used in building maintenance.
3. Must have good written, verbal, and computer communication skills.
4. Shift will be part time days, Monday through Friday. Shift hours to be discussed with final candidate.
