Overview of the Position:
Performs trade and custodial/maintenance work on grounds and equipment. Conducts all tasks necessary to maintain the fairground’s clean and safe environment.

This is a part-time position, 40 hours per week.

• Performs set up, maintenance, and cleanup for fairground events, which involves: setting up/breaking down tables, chairs, stages, public address system, etc.
• Maintains lawn and grounds by clear of debris around all entrances.
• Maintains building furniture and fixtures. Operates power equipment as directed.
• Performs general maintenance and minor repairs to equipment. (As directed by your supervisor).
• Records daily work: records of worker hours, event hours, time put in on specific projects, etc.
• Work schedule as follows: required to work a typical 40-hour work week; work hours may vary based on the fairground needs or event schedules. Some weekends and evenings will be required, and additional hours during the Sumter County Fair.

Compensation: Competitive Salary (subject to experience), the opportunity for incentives. Over time as directed by your supervisor. Flex time may be considered and used in your work schedule.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Exercises independent judgment addressing ancillary duties associated with satisfying primary responsibilities/goals of the Sumter County Fair.
• Develops (people skills) when working with fair inventors.
• Organizes and maintains an excel spreadsheet of tables, chairs, Kitchen, rodeo, and all other fairground inventory items.
• Represents the fairgrounds while receiving feedback concerning programs and fairgrounds, greets the public, and provides information to outside inquiries.
• Evaluates fairgrounds for needed improvements, report finding and ideas to supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs., some crawling, heavy lifting; manual dexterity and strength to operate machinery and tools; work outdoors in ambient weather
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug testing

Preferred Qualifications:
Skills: Grounds Maintenance, Custodial, and Carpentry

Reporting Relationship:
The Maintenance Worker reports to the Sumter County Fairground Manager and the Sumter County Fair Board Executive Committee.

Pay: $15 per hour plus the ability to earn bonuses
