A Tesla Facilities Architectural Designer will have the opportunity to assist in driving the design and modification of spaces and systems installed in our cell manufacturing facilities towards world-class energy efficiency and work spaces, while minimizing environmental impact through smart, ingenious first principles design philosophies that can provide unprecedented operational flexibility as well as reliability. You will work closely with system operations and engineering experts to continuously develop and improve these state-of-the-art buildings that will help accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
What You’ll Do- Assist in preparation of a variety of design deliverables: Owners Project Requirements, Basis of Design, regulatory/code research, conceptual design, performance specifications, Haz-Ops reviews.
- Develop and maintain building layouts and presentation drawings.
- Creating 3D models and generating interior renderings using SketchUp, Revit, Enscape as needed.
- Providing graphic design and presentation support.
- Updating as-built drawings by performing site visits and field measurements as needed.
- Assisting in developing test fits, furniture layouts, blocking, and stack plans including furniture, finish, and fixture selections.
- Participating in analysis of workplace data to develop innovative plans and solutions.
- Collaborating with design and construction teams on active projects.
- Expertise with BIM and design coordination processes
- Develop knowledge of related basic design principles, applicable design guides and standards.
- Develop knowledge of relevant building codes and standards.
- Work with construction team and AHJ to facilitate inspections and close permits.
- Reviews of design progress drawings, shop drawings and submittals.
- Audit facilities systems performance as well as systems operational issues/impacts in order to develop process or system improvements that can provide meaningful value.
- Champion and observe all safety policies during the execution of required tasks.
- Required to work with and around hazardous areas and hazardous chemicals and materials.
- Assist with management and audits of design services performed by consultants including preparing RFP scope and independent cost estimate, critically reviewing consultant proposals, negotiating cost, ensuring schedule/budget compliance, auditing scope conformance and quality, and reviewing consultant performance.
- Background in Architecture or Interior Design.
- 3-5 years of experience in architectural design, preferably in one or more of the following:
- Industrial buildings, mission critical/data centers, high tech/R&D, bio-tech/pharmaceutical, or battery manufacturing.
- Complete understanding and familiarity with material/equipment selection and methods of installation for most architectural scopes of work, including but not limited to:
- Interior and exterior partitions, fire rated partitions and penetrations, egress and fire code, doors & hardware, security, floor finishes, wall finishes, signage, and millwork.
- Ability to create presentation drawings and renderings using Revit and Adobe Photoshop.
- Knowledge of relevant Codes and Standards (IBC, NFPA, etc.) as well as CA building codes.
- Ability to travel domestic and international.
- Data oriented and organized mind set.
- Ability to learn, adapt and deliver in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
