Job description
We are hiring for 7p-7a shift and offer a $2.00 shift differential for 12 hour shift. We are also hiring for 11p-7a shift and the shift differential for 3rd is $.75.
Summary
The Extruder Operator operates extrusion machinery to perform various operations or produce primary insulations, final jackets, and ducted products. Extruder Operators may operate one or more extrusion machines or perform other duties assigned to them.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Receive proper work instructions, Shop Orders, or Routings from their supervisor.
- Turn ON all the proper equipment that must be used for the production run the Extruder Operator is going to set up and run.
- Locate the proper Extruder Process Data Sheet for the production run being set up. Process Data Sheets are located at the machine’s work center in the station computer.
- Coordinate the production runs with the Extruder Take-up Operator if applicable
- Inform the forklift driver what supply reels and materials are needed for the production run being set up to run.
- Use hand wrenches, Allen wrenches, gauges, micrometer, caliper diameter tape, optical comparator, hoists, laser mikes, wire cutters, footage measuring equipment, welders, spark testers, pyrometer, die grinders, utility knives, and propane torches, etc.
- Set up all tooling for the tape forming equipment and extruder heads.
- Set up all necessary equipment and tooling throughout the extrusion line.
- Monitor the functioning of the extrusion machine to assure that the correct quantity and quality of material is being extruded in compliance with the specifications that are applicable.
- May adjust temperature, speeds, tensions, laser mike settings, or color meters, etc.
- Must replenish extruder hopper material, tapes, or any raw material manually or automatically to assure there is enough material for the production run being run.
- Monitor extruder temperatures.
- Monitor drying hopper temperatures.
- Splice or weld tapes.
- Set up and monitor print and printers.
- Obtain proper quality and adjust form minor variations of material.
- Adjust center to maintain specification wall thickness.
- Cut all wire lengths to the proper footages called for on the Shop Orders or Routings
- Fill out Machine Work Log, Extruder Operator Check Logs, Extruder Process Data Sheets, and Work-in-Progress Tags with all the proper information that is required on them.
- Retag and segregate all materials properly.
- Read and understand all Standard Operating Procedures.
- Follow all safety precautions in the machine’s Operational Procedure.
- Must perform overtime as required
- Must perform any and all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Must report on time and begin work at start of shift.
Unusual Extra Duties that have meaningful impact on the Company ( comprising more than 10% of total workload)
Qualifications
Education & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED
Language Skills Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing
Mathematical Skills Ability to perform any and all mathematical calculations as required by position.
Reasoning Ability Must be able to determine when a problem occurs and make necessary adjustments
Computer Skills Must be computer literate
Other Skills Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, normal color vision per Ishihara’s Test for Color Deficiencies, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, bend stoop. kneel, stand, and reach. The operator must use their hands to set up equipment and operate the extrusion machines. There will be lifting that will occasionally reach 50 lbs.
