Position Summary
This is a temporary assignment that will end at the discretion of the department or when funding or hours are exhausted.
Governors State University (GSU) is seeking to hire an Extra Help Recruiter for the TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers Program (EOC). GSU’s EOC Project is a federally funded TRIO program intended to provide counseling and information on college admissions and other beneficial services to qualified adults and teenage students who want to enter, reenter, or continue a program of post-secondary education. Reporting to the EOC Director, the PT Recruiter focuses on recruitment and connecting adults to strong secondary school diplomas, GED programs, and post-secondary education. Some services include assisting participants with applying to the program, explaining the resources offered through TRIO, connecting participants to the appropriate service. EOC ensures participants are aware of a wide variety of post-secondary opportunities, including traditional academic programs, career training, and certificate programs. In addition to participant support, this position will also be required to build and maintain strong community partnerships across the service area. EOC’s emphasis is on supporting participants from low-income and under-served communities with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.

Essential Responsibilities:

% Assist in identifying, recruiting, and selecting participants.

% Assist in preparing workshops.

% Provide information and resources to EOC participants.
15% Provide referrals to students for GED programs
10% Create participant files
6% Assist in miscellaneous clerical functions as requested.
6% Assist with questions and problems courteously and promptly.
6% Assist in creating communication for recruitment and program news.
7% Collaborates in maintaining the program’s social media platforms.
Other Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of TRIO serving population, low-income, first-generation students.
- Stays informed and has knowledge of community resource programs and events
- Proactive Leader – Works well without close supervision and demonstrates initiative.
The hourly rate of pay is : $15.00

Minimum Qualifications
- GED or High School Diploma
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of collegiate, academic and financial aid procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience aiding, advising, or counseling students towards entering an institution of post-secondary education or re-entering an educational program.
- Individuals who have succeeded in overcoming disadvantaged circumstances like those of the EOC program participants
- Bilingual Spanish/English
