This position is part time and will work 6 to 10 hours per week. The Literacy Support Specialist works under general supervision and is responsible for examining and verifying documents, preparing routine correspondence, and maintaining files. This position will report directly to the Literacy Coordinator and the Director of Adult Education. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Knowledge, Abilities, And Skills:

Ability to multi-task during peak registration periods. Maintain professionalism when dealing with the student population and various department personnel. Provides timely execution of requested assignments. Knowledge of the enrollment process. Knowledge of record-keeping procedures. Knowledge of basic arithmetic. Knowledge of basic grammar. Knowledge of computers and software applications specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to conduct research and compile data into report form. Ability to establish and maintain filing systems. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to analyze documents to determine compliance with rules, regulations, and procedures. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to work in a team environment.

Support tutors and Coordinator with development of Delta Literacy Council:

  • Evaluate literacy needs (based off Intake & TABE)
  • Collaborate with tutors to provide instruction
  • Create a literacy environment conducive to effective instruction
  • Implement tutoring schedule and facilitate placement of students
  • Assist Coordinator with contacting students and members of the community
  • Participate in team reviews concerning academic progress of students

Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. OTHER JOB-RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
