External Communications Specialist, College of Forestry and Agriculture
Job description
- Assists in creating visual and written content promoting the activities, events, programming, and mission of the college, collaborating with University Marketing Communications as appropriate.
- Provides information to University Marketing Communications staff to be utilized in releases submitted to area media.
- Develops and maintains promotional and/or recruitment materials for the college that conform to the identity standards established by the university.
- Maintains and grows the college’s online presence through use of new web techniques and websites, social media, and other networking platforms.
- Assists in maintaining and updating the college’s website in conjunction with University Marketing Communications.
- Collaborates with the Office of Development concerning the dean’s communications with current donors, potential donors, and fundraising opportunities.
- Plans and coordinates meetings, activities, and events at the direction of the dean.
- Assists in handling routine administrative and clerical duties.
- Coordinates and assists with a variety of special projects, as assigned.
- May supervise assigned staff, including student assistants.
- Works evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of content management systems and social media outlets.
- Knowledge of current office procedures and related office equipment.
- Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately with attention to detail.
- Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintaining a satisfactory work product.
- Ability to accurately prepare records, files, and reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
- Ability to effectively market the programs and services of the department.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
- Ability to promote a favorable image of the college and the university.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.
