Sensational Extended School Year (ESY) Camp Counselor

A day in the life of an ESY camp counselor can look like:

• Making memories with campers with disabilities when swimming, visiting the horse barn and singing campfire songs!
• Laughing with your co-workers as you learn about yourself, develop your skills and abilities, expand your patience and make an unforgettable impact on the lives of children with disabilities!
• Learning classroom techniques from our experienced intervention specialist, speech language pathologist, and occupational therapist!

Camp Cheerful is a beautiful 52 acre facility that is part of the well-respected Achievement Centers for Children (ACC). Since 1940 ACC has been empowering children and adults with disabilities and their families to achieve their greatest potential. Located in the Mill Steam Run Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks in Strongsville, Ohio, Camp Cheerful provides campers all the traditional camp activities including: hiking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, arts and crafts, nature study activities, games, campfire activities, music, sports, visits to our horse barn, and memories that will last a lifetime! Not only do our Sensational ESY students enjoy all the amazing activities that we typically provide- they also receive small group, individualized instruction by our intervention specialist, occupational therapist, speech language pathologist, and potentially YOU- our Sensational ESY Camp Counselor!

The Details:

• Minimum $450 per week stipend - may increase dependent upon experience
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Minimum one year coursework on education, speech language pathology, occupational therapy, or similar OR one year classroom experience
• Counselors work Monday through Friday, from 8:30-4:30pm.
• Staff Training week June 5th to June 9th
  • Including CPR, First Aid and AED certification, Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification, lots of information about disabilities and abilities and how to be a GREAT sensational camp counselor!
  • Sensational ESY Camp runs June 12th through August 4th, option to add on and work Cheerful Day Camp through August 11th.
  • Sensational ESY Campers are between the ages of 5 to 22 with a variety of disabilities, predominately autism.
  • We serve a wide range of disabilities including cognitive, physical, developmental and neurological.
  • We provide a 1 counselor to 2 camper ratio
