Position Summary

Department Summary
The Office of the Provost supports the faculty and curriculum of Oregon Tech by providing leadership to all of the university’s campuses and academic programs, fostering excellence in teaching, research and service to the community. The Office of the Provost guides the university’s mission in providing educational quality and access, and directs the university’s efforts in strategic redesign of its academic mission.

Oregon Tech is located on two campuses; the main Oregon Tech campus in Klamath Falls, OR and a satellite campus in the Portland-Metro area, with significant online course offerings as well. Oregon Tech is the only accredited public polytechnic university in the Pacific Northwest, is one of the top public regional universities in the western US and is consistently ranked among the top public College in the nation for undergraduate degrees in allied health and engineering.

Position Summary
This new founding Executive Director position with seed funding offers an exciting opportunity for an innovative leader to establish, grow, direct and sustain a new Center of Excellence in Applied Computing and for developing strong ties between Oregon Tech and the computing community. Oregon Tech is committed to leveraging our computing infrastructure and intellectual expertise to offer computational solutions to some of the relevant problems facing society by the use of applied computing. The executive director plans and implements program directions for research, public outreach and education; develops a collaborative team of staff and faculty; plans applied research projects with industry partners; administers facilities; leads fundraising activities; and develops and manages the center’s budget. The position reports directly to the provost, Dr. Joanna Mott, and will work collaboratively with the University’s Academic Deans and Vice Provost.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Management Information Systems, Machine Learning, or closely related field
  • 4 years of relevant experience (academic and/or industry). Exceptional experience and a MS degree may substitute for a Ph.D.
  • Experience in contemporary computing and a knowledge of industry needs that can be addressed by faculty and student research.
  • The ability to function in and recruit a diverse team (faculty, staff, students and industry partners) and develop expertise to serve the needs of the center.
  • The ability to develop goals for the center and develop a 5 year plan to accomplish these goals
  • The ability to secure resources associated with the needs of the center and its constituents.
  • The ability to manage, track and report on the activities of the center.
  • Experience in grantsmanship and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change in priorities.
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully work, communicate, and collaborate in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership in an academic setting (chair, center etc.)
  • Leadership of a center
